The president of Missouri State University outlined the goals and achievements of the institution during his annual address today. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.
Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel gave his annual address today to an auditorium full of faculty, staff and students on the Springfield campus.
He reviewed the accomplishments of the past year. One achievement he cited was minority enrollment.
Nietzel called on other university administrators to discuss highlights from various areas of the institution. Provost Belinda McCarthy discussed her desire to improve the number of students who stay at the university after their first semester.
Another topic from today's speech was campus security. Nietzel says there will soon be an option to receive security and emergency alerts by text message.
Nietzel says the text messages would be part of a multi-layered approach to communicating with students, faculty, staff and the public.
