As the freezing rain and snow falls, there will be people out working to keep the area's roads as drivable as possible. KSMU's Michele Skalicky has more...
At the Missouri Department of Transportation Springfield District Office today, workers are preparing for the winter weather...
"Just getting equipment ready, making sure that all the trucks are running and plow blades are ready to go, which we usually change out the plow blades after each storm so that we're ready to move quickly--normal preparations for a storm like this."
MODOT spokesman Bob Edwards says they're keeping an eye on the weather and will send crews out as soon as they're needed.
You can check road conditions online by going to the traveler information map at modot.org...
"You can zoom in on specific areas. You can overlay the radar and see where the storm is. It's a handy tool to help you get an idea of what the road conditions are."
According to Edwards, even though crews will be out plowing the roads, while the snow is coming down they'll still be covered.
He says if you have to be out during the storm, remember to take it slow and give yourself plenty of stopping distance.
