The Missouri Department of Transportation's new Director takes the the helm, or maybe the steering wheel, Sept 15th. Mike Smith files this report:
(From the AP and KSMU News)
New transportation director Pete Rahn say's he'll transform Missouri's aging roads and bridges into the best transportation system in the nation. Missouri transportation Commissioners also hope Rahn can help turn public perception in favor of MODOT.
The 49-year-old former New Mexico transportation Secretary is to start his new job on September 15th.
The state's roads and bridges consistently are ranked among the nation's worst in condition, but that's only the most tangible challange facing Rahn. In an interview with KSMU, Rahn say's he's quickly observed that the transportation system needs more money.
Rahn will oversee a department that employees more than 6 thousand people with a budget of 1.8 billion dollars. The agency maintains 32 thousand miles of raodway in Missouri.
For Ksmu News, I'm Mike Smith.
