The Springfield Expo Center is filled with clocks and watches of all shapes and sizes this week. The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors is in town for their 63rd annual convention. KSMU's Michele Skalicky visited the convention and has this story.
Hundreds of people milled around the Springfield Expo Center today looking at a variety of clocks and watches for sale. Many convention goers brought time pieces to sell, but they also are constantly looking for that next special clock or watch. About 1700 people--from places as far away as Russia, Hungary and Japan--are here for the convention, which features not only The Mart, with 900 tables of watches, clocks and parts that NAWCC members can purchase or trade, but also a variety of lectures including "The Story of English Watches" and "Time, a Premium," featuring advertising watches and clocks from cereal boxes or available by mail from other food products.
George Orr is an NAWCC member and past president, and he came to Springfield from Oklahoma City for the convention. His passion is clocks. He's been collecting them for more than 40 years. He particularly likes wooden works clocks made by early Connecticut clock makers, but he loves them all...

He shows me a table on which lay several beautiful wooden clocks...

The price tag on one of those clocks--$12,000. A lovely gold-painted clock next to the wooden ones has an interesting story. It was made by Elmer Stennis...

It's the history of clocks that fascinates Tom Bain who came to the convention from Miami, Oklahoma. He's been collecting clocks for around 40 years. A recent addition to his collection is from the Civil War-era.

Like all good clock and watch collectors, he's always on the lookout for another time piece to add to his collection. He's in denial that his hobby is addictive...
