The College Station Car Park will open tomorrow after about a year of construction. The parking garage opens just in time for the holiday shopping season. KSMU's Greg Leuthen reports.
The College Station Car Park, which is located at the intersection of Campbell and McDaniel, will provide nearly 400 additional parking spaces in downtown Springfield. The opening comes at an ideal time with the holiday shopping season underway and the downtown Art Walk scheduled for December 7th. Phil Broyles is the Assistant Director of Public Works. He explains why the Department of Public Works has decided to allow everyone to park in the garage for free during its first few months.
Although Broyles says that parking will be free for a while, overnight parking for residents will not be available. The completion of the parking garage is the first part of the College Station project. The second part of the project is to finish construction on a new movie theatre just north of the garage. Broyles says he expects the movie theatre to open on schedule this summer.
