The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is hosting an exhibit this month to remind the public about the beauty and importance of caves. The exhibit will also educate the public about the danger some caves are in. KSMU's Jana Greer has more.
The exhibit is called Caves in Crisis, showcasing photographs of beautiful caves, but also of caves that have been vandalized and damaged. Bill Elliot is a Cave Biologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation. He explains some of the damage being found in caves.
The exhibit also showcases restoration projects of damaged caves. But Elliot says that once the damage is done, it is not easily repaired.
Along with bringing attention to the problem of damaged caves, Elliot says he hopes the exhibit will remind the public about the importance and benefits caves provide in our everyday lives.
The exhibit will be on display at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center until the end of February.
