New Lady Bears Head Coach Announced

Nyla Milleson is the new head coach for the Missouri State University Lady Bears. KSMU's Emily Nash reports.

The announcement came from university officials late Monday afternoon

Former Lady Bears head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson resigned March 30th.

And it didn't take long for the Missouri State Athletic selection committee to look for a replacement.

Milleson has spent the last seven years establishing and leading Drury University's first ever women's basketball team.

Missouri State Director of Athletics Bill Rowe says they chose Milleson not only for her winning record at Drury, but because she is well acquainted with the southwest Missouri area.

Before she was the head coach at Drury, Milleson was the head coach of Glendale High School in Springfield from 1992-1999.

In fall 1999 she started the Drury women's team and in the next seven years led them to six conference titles.

Last season, she led the Lady Panthers to the quarter finals of the NCAA Division Two tournament.

Milleson says even though she is now coaching Division One basket ball her priority in taking care of the women on and off the court will not change.

She says, her goal is to win the Missouri Valley Conference, but says she will need all the Lady Bear fan support to do that.

Milison's appointment is subject to approval by the Missouri State Board of Governors.

Milleson says she will start recruiting for new members in the Southwest Missouri region this week.
