A Nixa city employee has been arrested for allegedly stealing a substantial amount of money from the city. KSMU’s Kristian Kriner reports.
Nixa city officials say the employee was arrested Monday afternoon after an internal city investigation revealed possible embezzlement of city funds.
Brian Bingle, Nixa’s city administrator, says city officials will not release any more information about the theft until the investigation is over.
“We are hoping in the next several days, this several days started on Monday when we arrested the employee and it is our hope that we will conclude that investigation either today or tomorrow," Bingle said.
The Nixa Police Department says the police chief will be meeting with the Christian County prosecuting attorney to move the investigation forward.
Ron Cleek is the prosecuting attorney for Christian County.“Right now, we have an ongoing criminal investigation. One individual was arrested. He was charged, but we have a number of other individuals that we’re looking at, at this point in time, so I can’t give any information out until that investigation is finished,” Cleek said.
Cleek says more information should come out by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.
