Nixon Answers Questions about When He Knew of High E. Coli Levels in the Lake of the Ozarks

During a stop in Springfield Wednesday, Governor Jay Nixon answered reporters’ questions about when he found out there were high levels of E. coli in the Lake of the Ozarks. KSMU's Kristian Kriner reports.

The Springfield News-Leader is reporting on an email showing that a staffer with the Department of Natural Resources needed the E coli report for a meeting with the governor on June 3rd.

Nixon says there was no meeting on June 3rd and he had no knowledge of the E. coli levels until the information was released to the public.

“The first time I became aware of this, I said I was disappointed. It was wrong and it should be changed. And everyday since then I have said that. The time I became aware of it was in mid-July and we certainly feel like information of that nature should be released when it was available; analyzed and available,” Nixon said.

Nixon was actually in Springfield today to talk about grant funding for law enforcement.
