Officials Confirm First Swine Flu Case in Missouri

U.S. health officials have confirmed the first case of swine flu in Missouri. KSMU's Jennifer Moore has details.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday that a Kansas City-area woman in her 30s has contracted the 2009 H1N1 virus, making hers the first confirmed case of swine flu in Missouri.

The Platte County woman, who recently returned from Mexico, has received antiviral medicine. She was not hospitalized and was recovering well.

The state Department of Health and Senior Services says it has distributed medical supplies and antiviral medications to every county in the state.

On Thursday, health officials said the state had a second probable case of swine flu. But that case, a 19-year-old man from the Kansas City area, has not been confirmed by the CDC.
