Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will be in Springfield Wednesday morning for a town hall meeting. It will be held in the gym at Glendale High School. Doors will open at 8AM and Obama will begin speaking around 10 o'clock. Tickets are available to the public on a first come, first serve basis tonight from 6 to 9 at four locations: 220 South Campbell in downtown Springfield, 270 West Mount Vernon in Nixa, 900 West Washington Street, suite 220 in Marshfield, and at 457 South Albany Avenue in Bolivar. Organizers estimate around a thousand people will come out to Glendale High School to hear Senator Barack Obama talk about jobs and the economy.
Nelson Parnell of Springfield is a retired United Church of Christ minister and he met with reporters at Obama's headquarters in downtown Springfield to announce details of Obama's visit.
Parnell says he's pleased Obama's coming to an area that's traditionally viewed as a conservative stronghold.
The chair of Greene County Republican Committee says she and other Republicans aren't concerned about Obama's visit and are focused on their own candidates.
Tina Hervey is the spokeswoman for the Missouri Republican Party. She says Obama does not appeal to moderate Republicans.
