Economics guru and NewsHour reporter Paul Solman will be giving a speech in MSU’s Plaster Student Union Wednesday night as part of the university’s Public Affairs Conference. The speech will help convey the overall theme of this year’s conference – The New Economy: Peril and Promise. KSMU and Ozarks Public Television are co-sponsors for Solman’s visit.
Dr. Mahua Barari-Mitra is in charge of the Public Affairs Conference this year, and says this type of event is new to the conference, but she’s excited for the conversations it will spark.
“This is the first time we are starting with a pre-conference kick-off event. Mr. Solman is a household name. He is the business and economics correspondent for NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS. He is going to talk about America’s Response to Globalization: Peril and Promise. This topic seems to me to be a natural conversation starter.”
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:00 Wednesday night in the Plaster Student Union theatre. This will be a precursor to the dozens of events scheduled for the remainder of the conference next week.
