Congressman Roy Blunt set out this morning with his wife Abigail and son Charlie to cast his vote at his local polling location at Glenstone Baptist Church in Springfield.
Blunt is running against eight other Republicans in today’s primary for the U.S. Senate. Also running is state senator Chuck Purgason. The front-runner on the Democratic side is Robin Carnahan. Blunt says he is looking forward to supporting the Republican winner of his current seat in the 7th congressional district. He advises whoever eventually wins the general election in November to keep in touch with the people of southwest Missouri.
“My advice would be listen to the people you work for. Do your best to represent them every day, and try to be sure that they have the information you have that you can share with them so they know what the decisions you’re making are all about,” said Blunt.
It has been speculated that Blunt’s name could hurt him in the election. Many Americans are talking about sending new people to Washington, but Blunt says voters are still most concerned with the issues.
“They’re going to be doing what they can to send people to Washington that reflect their view of the future of the country,” Blunt said.
The polls will close today at 7 p.m.
