A family's legacy of giving will benefit area organizations that provide dental care, food, shelter, compassionate care at the end of life, and leadership training. Mike Smith has the story:

Community Foundation of the Ozarks
The Louis and Dorothy Coover Regional Grantmaking Program, a partnership between Community Foundation of the Ozarks and Commerce Trust Company, has awarded $150,000 to six agencies that address regional needs.
A check presentation ceremony and reception was held Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Commerce Bank, 1345 East Battlefield, in the third floor reception room.
The Louis and Dorothy Coover Regional Grantmaking Program supports new and innovative programs or projects that address regional needs through advocacy, public education or capacity building. Organizations with regional service areas that are primarily outside of metropolitan Springfield and Greene County are encouraged to apply. Grant applications must fit into one of the following program areas: Health and Social Services, Arts/Culture and Environment and Education and Community Development.
These organizations were awarded Coover grants at Tuesday's ceremony:
BARRY-LAWRENCE ADVOCATES STANDING TOGETHER
$29,875 to refurbish a five unit apartment complex for habitation by single parent families.
CHILDREN'S HAVEN OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI
$31,380 to provide funds for housing, food and support to children chose families are experiencing crisis.
COMMUNITY ALLIANCE FOR COMPASSIONATE CARE OF THE END OF LIFE
$15,610 to provide funds for a program director, assistants and manuals and supplies for the EDNA training program that improves the quality of care for individuals in the Missouri Ozarks.
FORDLAND CLINIC, INC.
$27,525 to complete construction of a third dental operatory and the sterilization room. Also to purchase the dental instruments and supplies and cover one-quarter of dentist salary.
MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
$15,610 to provide funds for training coordinators and to purchase instructional and curriculum materials to provide leadership training to public and nonprofit sectors throughout Southwest Missouri. This program has been developed by the University's Community and Social Issues Institute, the Jim D. Morris Center for Continuing Education and the Management Development Institute.
OZARKS FOOD HARVEST
$30,000 to increase warehouse space by purchasing a new facility that will be equipped to receive donations of frozen and refrigerated food along with dry goods to be distributed to citizens in Southwest Missouri and North Central Arkansas.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks supports asset development, community-based grant making, organizational collaboration and leadership initiatives throughout southern Missouri. CFO is comprised of 36 affiliate community foundations and over 850 charitable funds totaling approximately $97 million.
