The newest art gallery in Eureka Springs had an unlikely origin. When Rebecca J. Becker and Keith Scales moved to Eureka Springs from the Pacific Northwest last year, they purchased their Victorian home sight unseen, except for online photos. Both had been deeply involved in the arts for decades, but neither dreamed their new home would also become an art gallery--until they saw it. Rebecca Becker was immediately struck by what a great gallery space it would make, so they spent 6 months remodeling the 1887 home at 42 Prospect and turned it into "Prospect Gallery." It opened for business in April, with world-class visual and literary works by regional artists, including Rebecca Becker's own pastel paintings. Prospect Gallery also features works of landscape artist Susan DeRosa, photographer Chuck Thomas, painter Jean Merritt, photographic transfer artist John Merritt, impressionistic and abstract artist Marvin G. Jonason, and multi-media artist Keith Mock. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Sundays 11-5, and Fridays and Saturdays 10am-9pm.
