The Missouri Film Alliance and The Moxie Cinema are holding a FREE, five-month “Queen City Cinema” series dedicated to Springfield-area filmmakers. The series opens TONIGHT (Tuesday Jan.4th) at 9:30pm with a showing of four short films. The free film series will take place every first Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. at the Moxie Cinema, 431 S. Jefferson (entrance on Pershing just south of the Downtown Y). This initial series will include “oops” by Chris Beckman, which was selected to show at Utah’s Sundance Film Festival in January. Donations will be accepted to help pay for Beckman’s travel expenses to attend the Sundance Festival. His 10-minute art film, which is composed entirely of YouTube video segments, also won the Vimeo Awards Experimental category. The three other featured films on Tuesday include:“This is the Orange Line” by Nathan Maulorico; “One Piece at a Time” by Max Rosen; and “Loose Cannon” by Brook Linder. The Moxie is partnering with the Springfield-based Missouri Film Alliance to give local filmmakers this outlet to show their work on the big screen. The Queen City Cinema series is funded through a grant from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks’ Arts Programming Sustainability Initiative, which encourages projects that nurture local arts and the audiences for them. The submission process is ongoing. Any aspiring directors out there should drop off two DVDs of their film (short or long) at the Moxie.
