Certain kinds of tires sold across the country, including here in Missouri are being recalled because they could cause serious accidents. KSMU's Missy Shelton has the details.
Several thousand tires sold in Missouri are the subject of a product recall.
Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon is warning Missourians to check their tires. The recalled tires were manufactured in China and were sold under the names Westlake, Compass and YKS.
Nixon sites information from the manufacturer indicating the tires lack a "gum strip" which makes them susceptible to premature tread separation. That can lead to serious accidents.
John Fougere is the Attorney General's spokesperson. He explains how the tires got into Missouri.
Fougere says it's important that consumers act quickly.
The Attorney General's office is involved in a multi-state investigation to identify the tires and recover money for consumers.
