It's a job that many pre-teens and teens look forward to doing. It's usually done in a climate controlled setting with access to food, and many times, television. It's also a way to earn some spending money. Mike Smith has the story:
Week Long Camp to Teach Safety
The American Red Cross will offer a week-long babysitting camp to kids ages 11 and older July 17-21. Cost for each student is $150.
Students will learn safety skills ... including first aid and CPR ... and learn creative ways to keep younger children occupied. A variety of guest speakers are on the slate ranging from a police officer and drug dog to a local meteorologist.
"It's really our goal to make sure the babysitters are as informed as they can be so they'll make smart choices on the job. Hopefully, this camp will help them build confidence and good self-esteem. We also hope they'll become stronger leaders" explains health and safety director Faith Koppes.
Lunches and snacks are included in the cost of camp. Pre-registration is required. Call 417-832-9500 for more information.
