Robin Carnahan Discusses Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan recently announced that she has breast cancer. KSMU's Missy Shelton recently spoke with Carnahan and files this report.

Robin Carnahan says she's fortunate that she detected the lump in her breast early.

Carnahan says the treatment process will involve radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.

She says as she begins treatment, she's keeping a positive attitude.

Carnahan says she hopes that by talking about her own experiences with breast cancer, she'll inspire women across the state to take charge of their health.

While Carnahan acknowledges the treatment could be draining, she says she hopes to keep working.

Carnahan says she expects to have surgery this summer.
