Roy Blunt Wins in 7th Congressional District

Defeating his democratic opponent by more than 40 percentage points, Republican Roy Blunt retained his seat in the U.S. Congress. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

BLUNT'S DEMOCRATIC OPPONENT WAS ATTORNEY JIM NEWBERRY OF SPRINGFIELD.

NEWBERRY HAD HOPED FOR SEVERAL TELEVISED DEBATES BUT THERE WAS ONLY ONE. IT AIRED ON OZARKS PUBLIC TELEVISION AND K-S-M-U RADIO.

BLUNT SERVES AS THE MAJORITY WHIP IN THE U-S HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES...THAT MEANS HE'S RESPONSIBLE FOR CORRALING SUPPORT FOR THE REPUBLICAN AGENDA AND COUNTING THE NUMBER OF VOTES CERTAIN BILLS WILL RECEIVE.

BLUNT SAYS HE'S PLEASED THE PEOPLE OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI HAVE CHOSEN TO RE-ELECT HIM.

BLUNT WAS FIRST ELECTED TO THE U.S. HOUSE IN 1996.
