School Board Candidate Filing


Springfield Public Schools is taking nominations for two school board positions. The election for these positions will take place April 5, 2005. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

IN APRIL, THE TERMS OF SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT MIKE HOEMAN AND SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER MARY NORMAN WILL EXPIRE.

BOTH ARE SEEKING RE-ELECTION.

BOB KEYES IS THE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER FOR SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

HE SAYS THERE ARE TWO REQUIREMENTS CANDIDATES MUST MEET.

KEYES SAYS THERE'S NO REQUIREMENT THAT YOU HAVE AN EDUCATION BACKGROUND OR PRIOR INVOLVEMENT WITH THE SCHOOLS BUT HE SAYS THOSE THINGS ARE BENEFICIAL.

KEYES SAYS THERE'S SOME PAPER WORK THAT POTENTIAL SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE.

KEYES SAYS BEING A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER IS A GREAT WAY TO GET INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY.

THE FILING DEADLINE IS JANUARY 18TH.
