Signature Verification Will Take Time on City Audit Petition

Greene County Clerk Richard Struckhoff says it may take some time to verify the signatures on a petition requesting an audit of the city of Springfield. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Greene County Clerk Richard Struckhoff says it may take some time to verify the signatures on a petition requesting an audit of the city of Springfield.

Struckhoff says his office is consumed with preparations for next week's primary election.

He says the audit petition will have to wait.

State Auditor Claire McCaskill says she has a team ready to begin the audit of Springfield as soon as the signatures are verified.

McCaskill says it will be a comprehensive audit.

McCaskill says auditors will be looking at the municipal court where authorities say one million dollars or more is missing.

The audit petitioners presented signatures to McCaskill's office before news of the missing court money became public.

The audit will cost the city between 60 and 80 thousand dollars.

McCaskill says it could take six months to a year to complete the audit.
