SMS gets Higher Ed funding

State Representives whose districts encompass SMSU announce funding for the university. Mike Smith has the story .

Tuesday April 13 th , Missouri State Representatives Mark Wright and Larry Morris, whose districts encompass the SMSU campus, announced funding for SMS that is party of th recent Higher education budget passed by the House. Mark Wright says it's good news for SMSU. He says from the 18.9 billion dollar budget pass by the House earlier this month, 2 million dollars will represent an additional allocation to the SMS operating budget. The university will also get $75,000 for debt service relief, $200,000 for the Darr Agricultural Center, $350,000 to support the Campus Compact public affairs mission, and $175,000 to support environmental work projects at the Ozarks Water institute.

Freshman legislator Larry Morris says his part in securing the funding for the institution from which he received 2 degrees has been a rewarding experience, and gives credit to House Budget Chairman Carl Beardon for finding the funding for SMS in the middle of a tight budget year.

SMSU President Dr. John Keiser says the university will make good use of the money and awaits word from the Missouri Senate on final approval for the allocation. For KSMU News, I'm Mike Smith.
