You don't have to drive around Springfield very long to find a pot hole in the road and because of city budget cuts they probably won't be fixed anytime soon. KSMU's Jana Greer has more.
The Springfield City Council met today to make its last recommendations on the city budget. Council members have been deciding what should stay and what should be cut. One department that will be feeling the cuts is public works. The department, which oversees street maintenance, will be losing half a million dollars. Springfield Mayor Pro Tem Gary Deaver says public works had one million dollars cut from its budget last year and he worries it may cause problems in the future.
The city council had to make 5.2 million dollars in cuts to support the police and fire retirement system. The Springfield City Council will hold a meeting Monday night at City Hall to allow the public to give input about the budget. That meeting will begin at seven.
