Springfield Hosting the USTA Boys and Girls Tournament

Springfield is hosting the US Tennis Association boys and girls tournament this week at the Cooper Tennis Complex. Ksmu's Jana Greer Reports.

This is the seventh year the USTA tournament has been brought to Springfield.

Larry Haugness is the Tournament Director. He says the event has brought kids from all over the country to Springfield.

There are 64 boys and 64 girls competing in the tournament. One of those girls is eleven-year-old Sydney Liggins. She has been playing tennis since she was four years old. Even after playing for seven years, she says she loves to play tennis.

Sydney's mother Dianne Liggins says she believes the sport is good for her daughter.

Liggins says that she is careful making sure Sydney doesn't get burned out on tennis.

The top three finishers will advance to the USTA National Championships in July. The tournament is at the Cooper Tennis Complex and is running until May 23. The event is free and open to the public.
