Springfield School District Reviews Notification System Due to Accidental Message

The Springfield School District plans to review its automated phone notification system after an accidental message was sent out Monday afternoon. KSMU's Brett Moser reports.

Community Relations Director Marc Maness says the school district has received phone calls asking about the strange voice message sent to phones across Springfield.

According to school officials, the message was a man's voice saying, "I'm tired of this stuff," and that it was a mistake made by someone with access to the phone system.

The message was accidentally sent to parents as well as some who were not signed up for the system.

Maness says that could be the result of data entry errors, or parents signing up other contacts in case of an emergency.

But Maness says the school district is taking steps to make sure the mistake doesn't happen again.

"We're taking a look at the system and we will be doing a test after the review to ensure that numbers that weren't meant to be on the system are removed."

Maness adds that the system is intended to send voice mail notifications to parents about school closings, emergencies, scheduled holidays, and early release days.

This is the first year the Springfield School District has used this system.
