The Springfield Symphony opens its 75th season on Saturday Sept.19 with a celebration of the orchestra's rich history. Past meets present as Music Director Ron Spigelman is joined by two former Springfield Symphony Music Directors, Apo Hsu and Charles Bontrager. All three will share the podium as they conduct a fanfare specially commissioned for this concert from local composer Carlyle Sharpe. Also that night, the winner of the 2009 Hellam Young Artists' Competition, cellist Madeleine Kabat. Continuing the orchestra's tradition of playing audience favorites and presenting world-class guest artists, the 75th season has something for everybody, including Orff's Carmina Burana; a tribute to Louis Armstrong; and Springfield Symphony is one of the few orchestras in the world chosen to host the next Gold medalist of the Van Cliburn Piano Competition.
