SRO scholarship auditions for high school singers Nov.8

SRO Lyric Theatre (formerly Springfield Regional Opera) will hold vocal auditions for the Robert C. and Jeanne Strauss Kramer Camp, Cultural Arts and Educational Youth Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will be awarded by a nominating committee to a needy high school student who shows interest in opera and vocal performance. Auditions will be held Monday November 8 starting at 5:30pm in Ellis Hall Room 210 on the Missouri State University campus. Students should prepare a selection showcasing their range and skill--it could be a selection from school or church; bring the sheet music if available. An accompanist will be provided. If chosen as the scholarship recipient, the student will receive private voice lessons at no charge from MSU Coordinator of Vocal Studies, Professor Chris Thompson, who is also the Vocal Director of SRO Lyric Theatre Young Artist Program. The scholarship recipient will also have the opportunity to participate in SRO’s spring production of Puccini's "La Bohème" and year-end recital. This scholarship runs through May 2011 and is renewable. If you have questions about the audition, contact Chris Thompson at (208) 310-1510 or email ChrisThompson [at] MissouriState [dot] edu. To schedule an audition time call the SRO office at 863-1960.
