Cameron Locke, a senior at Stockton High School, won the Missouri Poetry Out Loud competition Wednesday March 21 in Jefferson City. For the Missouri finals, Cameron recited “There’s been a Death, in the Opposite House” by Emily Dickinson, “A Noiseless Patient Spider” by Walt Whitman, and “So This Is Nebraska” by Ted Kooser. Locke will compete in Washington in May as winners from every state vie for the title of national champion. Last year's national winner received a $20,000 college scholarship. Poetry Out Loud was created and funded by the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
