Missouri's first ever world-class professional cycling race came to Springfield yesterday. The race brought about 120 cyclists to Springfield and Greene County. KSMU's Jana Greer was there and reports.
Those were the sounds as the Discovery Channel's George Hincapie crossed the finish line and won Stage 2 of the Tour of Missouri. The cyclists left Clinton Wednesday morning and traveled over 120 miles to downtown Springfield. Many people came from all over the Ozarks to see the race. Judy Padgett is from Marshfield and says the event was very exciting.
The cyclists came from 20 different countries. Spokesperson for the Tour of Missouri, Steve Bruner, says that's what makes the event unique.
Mac Gum is from Willow Springs and says he hopes to see the tour come back to Missouri next year.
The next stage of the race is this afternoon in Branson. The six day race across Missouri will conclude Sunday in St. Louis.
