he State Transportation Department Director Henry Hungerbeeler announced his resignation today after more than four years at the helm of an agency that has struggled to rebuild Missouri's crumbling roads and its own public image. Hungerbeeler cited a recent report from a citizens' advisory panel that recommended top management changes for the Missouri Department of Transportation.There port did not single out any specific individuals who should depart,and Hungerbeeler said he did not believe he was the intended target.KSMU's Missy Shelton spoke with a member of the state highway commission about the resignation.
Jim Anderson says he wasn't surprised to learn of Hungerbeeler's resignation. He says he's been asked to serve on the committee to find Hungerbeeler's replacement. Anderson says it could be viewed as a chance for a fresh start for the department.
