With the cold weather outside, it's easy to get a little cabin fever. Some of you might want to break the fever with a little home improvement, but you don't have the tools you need to get started. The Urban Neighborhoods Alliance in Springfield has launched a new tool lending program to help save you money. KSMU's Kristian Kriner reports.
The Urban Neighborhoods Alliance recently started "Toolbox," a new tool lending library for Springfield residents.
If local residents need hardware tools but don't want to pay full price, they can apply for the Toolbox program and use tools from the tool lending library on a temporary basis.
Right now, the tool lending library has seven power tools available, including a power washer, chain saw, hedge trimmers and electric loppers.
Andrew Litchy, the Community Support and Service Coordinator for the Urban Neighborhoods Alliance, says Toolbox will help improve housing in Springfield.
"One of our missions at Urban Neighborhood alliance is to improve the housing stock in the Urban neighborhoods and we felt by giving them a cheaper and easier alternative to having to go out and buy costly tools just for maybe one particular project that it is kind of prohibitive, so we thought this would be better, make it more accessible for people to make improvements to their house and improve the housing stock," Litchy said.
Litchy says residents wanting to apply for this program must pay $25 per year and fill out an application either online or at the Urban Neighborhoods Alliance office located at 304 West McDaniel in Springfield.
Also included with the Toolbox membership is a home maintenance guide.
