A new community center for veterans is slated to open next year in Greene County. The facility is one of 39 new community centers the Veteran Affairs Department is opening around the country. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.
The V-A community center will provide combat veterans and their families with counseling on employment, family issues and educational opportunities.
Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt says there's a need to bring these services to Springfield.
Blunt says he expects the facility to be well-staffed with professional counselors and social workers. Services at V-A community centers are available at no cost to veterans who have been in combat during any conflict.
Officials have not selected a site for the new center.
