Vice President Dick Cheney was in Springfield Monday evening to give a boost to Senator Jim Talent's re-election campaign. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.
Senator Jim Talent introduced Vice President Dick Cheney to a crowd gathered at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield.
Organizer expected about 200 people to attend the Talent fundraiser.
During his remarks, Cheney urged those in attendance to re-elect Talent to the senate.
Jim Talent's likely democratic opponent is State Auditor Claire McCaskill.
The McCaskill campaign said that Cheney's visit is a sign that Talent doesn't think he can beat McCaskill on his own.
Nora Walcott, Executive Director of the Greene County Democratic Party had similar thoughts.
As part of his speech, Vice President Dick Cheney talked about Democrats and Democratic leaders.
Democrats say their candidates don't need high level officials to convince their base to support them.
The head of the Greene County Democratic Party, Nora Walcott says Claire McCaskill can stand on her own reputation.
As campaigns gear up and go into full swing, both Republicans and Democrats say they hope to see more headliners coming to Southwest Missouri between now and November.
