Weekend Outlook July 27-29, 2012

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are some ideas...
  • The Ozark Empire Fair opens today (7/27) at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds with rides, exhibits, food and much more.  For details, www.ozarkempirefair.com.
  • Sounds on the Square continues tonight (7/27) at 7 at Park Central Square.  Tonight’s featured band is Steve Smith and the Sneakers.
  • Free Summer Yoga on the Downtown Square continues today (7/27) at 12:10 on Park Central Square.
  • Movies at Founders Park continue this weekend.  The film “Cars 2” will be shown tonight (7/27) and “Footloose” tomorrow night (7/28) at dusk.  Free family four-packs of tickets are available at Mediacom Ice Park, the Busch Municipal Building, Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers and Mediacom offices.  For more information, www.itsalldowntown.com.
  • Splash n’ Sizzle events continue this weekend at Springfield-Greene County Park Board pools.  Grant Beach, Westport and Silver Springs pools are open tonight (7/27) from 5:30 to 8, Fassnight Pool is open tomorrow night (7/28) from 5:30 to 10, and Meador Pool is open tomorrow night from 5:30 to 8.  Admission is $1 or a canned food item for Ozarks Food Harvest.  To learn more, www.parkboard.org.
  • The Walter Woods Conservation Area is the location for the Discover Nature Families program “Family Fishing Night” tonight (7/27) from 6:30 to 8.  To register or to find out more, 417-629-3423.
  • A dance is held each Friday night at 7 at the West Plains Senior Center.  Admission is $4, and all ages are welcome.
  • If you’re out purchasing school supplies for your kids this weekend, why not buy extra for local needy children?  You can drop off school supplies for the Salvation Army at the Discovery Center of Springfield.  A donation will get you a buy one/get one free admission pass into the center.
  • Acoustic Jam on the Square starts Friday nights at 7 on the square in West Plains.  Take lawn chairs.
  • Kids in grades six through 12 are invited to the Library Station for the program “Get the Skinny!” tonight (7/27) at 6:30.  The program will feature Springfield’s comedy and improv group, The Skinny Improv.  For details, 865-1340.
  • Adults can watch the movie “Dinner with Schmucks” tomorrow night (7/28) at 6:30 during “It’s Date Night!” at the Brentwood Branch Library.  Popcorn will be provided, but you can take your own snacks.
