The website www.Livability.com selected West Plains, Missouri as number nine on its list of American small towns.
According to the site, the list is based on factors that make small to mid-sized cities great places to live, work and visit, like transportation, urban planning, and sustainability.
The website credited West Plains for its Civic Center, antique stores, festivals, and downtown court square. It also praised the town’s location, which is in the midst of numerous spring-fed streams and forests for nature-lovers.
Livability also highlighted the city’s Ozarks Small Business Incubator, or OzSBI, which recently won the Governor's Award for being the best economic development project in the state.
The town is also home to country music legends Porter Wagoner and Jan Howard, as well as baseball greats Preacher Roe and Bill Virdon.
West Plains is about a two-hour drive from Springfield. It has a population of around 12,000 people.
