Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield is asking for volunteers to help spruce up the park on its annual “Park Day” cleanup event on Saturday, April 6. KSMU’s Jennifer Davidson has details.
Volunteers will pick up trash and landscape around the picnic area, the visitor center, the park’s cemeteries and the historic Ray House. If enough volunteers show up, some will also pick up trash along State Route ZZ.
Volunteers will meet at the Visitor Center at 8:30 a.m. on April 6. They should wear outdoor clothing, and have work gloves, a hat and sunscreen.
The projects will continue until about 3:00. Anyone wanting to help can call 732-2662, extension 385 to register.
Park Day is an annual event sponsored by the Civil War Trust and the History Channel.
Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield was the first major battle of the Civil War in the West. It’s located 10 miles southwest of Springfield at the intersection of ZZ Highway and Farm Road 182.
