Wilson's Creek Holds Illumination Driving Tour

Wilson's Creek National Battlefield in Republic will host an Illumination Driving Tour December 8th from 4:30PM to 9:30PM. The event is free. KSMU's Missy Shelton has more.

More than 25 hundred soldiers lost their lives during the civil war battle at Wilson's Creek. In remembrance of those lives that were lost, the battlefield is hosting an illumination driving tour.

Ted Hillmer is superintendent of Wilson's Creek National Battlefield.

Hillmer says volunteers will set out the luminaries along the tour road.

As part of the event, there will be two stops along the tour route: the visitor's center where there will be refreshments and music and the Ray House.

The Ray House will be decked out in Civil War era Christmas décor and there will be volunteers dressed in period clothing at the house as well.

This is the 4th year for the event and Hillmer says the event usually attracts more than 12 hundred people.
