Work continues on the US Highway 60/65 interchange on the southeast corner of Springfield. KSMU’s Matthew Barnes has this update on what drivers should be aware of this week.
The interchange has been under construction for the past two years. As building continues, MoDOT will be working on some key areas of US 60 this week. Angela Eden is a spokesperson for the southwest area of MoDOT.
“A lot of the work this week is going to take place to install some guard and guard cable along US 60 there just east of Glenstone Avenue,” said Eden.
During that time, left lanes of traffic will be closed and speed limits reduced to 45 mph. According to Eden, most of the work will be done at night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to avoid major road congestion.
Crews will also be working at the new eastbound railroad bridge that will take US 60 over the railroad tracks.
“Work is progressing on that bridge where dump trucks are entering and leaving the work area. They're delivering dirt so we can raise up eastbound lanes on US 60 over the railroad tracks and complete work on the bridge,” said Eden.
MoDot says drivers should watch out for slow-moving dump trucks in the eastbound area of US 60 in the daytime while construction continues.
