Vice President Dick Cheney will be in Springfield Thursday to deliver remarks to a group whose members all agree on one thing..they would have skipped the right of initiation if given the choice. Mike Smith has the story:
Over 300 wounded combat veterans will attend the 73rd annual
National Convention of the Military Order of the Purple Heart through Aug 20th in Springfield.
Jim Young, this year's Convention Chairman, says opening remarks will be delivered by Congressman Roy Blunt and Keynote Speaker William D. McDaniel, Command Sgt. Major at Fort Leonard Wood. Thursday, Vice President Dick Cheney will speak to the group.
Ray Funderburk, the Military Order of the Purple Heart's National Director of Public Relations says there are over 500,000 living recipients of the Purple Heart in the USA today, and the his organization exists to support wounded veterans and their families.
Springfield is the smallest city ever chosen to host the convertion, and this year won the bid for the event over Los Angles.
