The Youngest and Eldest Members of the Missouri Delegation

Missouri's delegation to the Democratic National Convention consists of 104 individuals. KSMU's Missy Shelton is covering them in Boston...She spoke with the youngest member of the delegation and the eldest about their experiences this week.

MEET THE YOUNGEST MEMBER OF MISSOURI'S DELEGATION'

NATE IS FROM JACKSON, MISSOURI'HE BECAME INTERESTED IN BECOMING A DELEGATE TO THE NATIONAL CONVENTION WHEN HE TURNED 18 IN JANUARY, SHORTLY BEFORE MISSOURI'S PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY'

NOW, MEET THE MOST SENIOR MEMBER OF MISSOURI'S DELEGATION'

EDWARD JANOSIK IS FROM SPRINGFIELD'THIS IS HIS THIRD CONVENTION.

JANOSIK SAYS A LOT HAS CHANGED SINCE HE ATTENDED HIS FIRST CONVENTION IN 1960.

AND ONE OF THOSE DELEGATES YOU CAN COUNT ON FINDING IN THE FRONT OF MISSOURI'S SEATING SECTION EACH NIGHT IS NATE HINCHEY.

HE SAYS HE'S ENJOYING THE CONVENTION SPEECHES'HE ESPECIALLY LIKED HEARING FROM FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON.

AND NATE HENCHEY SAYS THAT APPROACH IS THE APPROACH THAT ATTRACTS YOUNG PEOPLE.

HE SAYS THE PARTIES NEED TO KNOW THAT THEY CAN'T ASSUME THEY'LL HAVE THE SUPPORT OF YOUNG VOTERS.

AND HE SAYS HE WANTS TO HEAR POLITICIANS TALK ABOUT THE KEY ISSUE THAT MANY YOUNG PEOPLE CARE ABOUT'EDUCATION.

WHILE YOUNG VOTERS AND OLDER VOTERS CARE ABOUT MANY OF THE SAME ISSUES LIKE EDUCATION, ED JANOSIK SAYS OLDER VOTERS HAVE THEIR OWN PRIORITIES.

JANOSIK SAYS HE'S PLEASED TO SEE YOUNGER POLITICIANS TALKING ABOUT THE ISSUES SENIORS CARE ABOUT'HE SAYS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS YEAR'S CONVENTION HAS BEEN SEEING SOME UP-AND-COMING DEMOCRATS LIKE U-S SENATE CANDIDATE BARAK OBAMA OF ILLINOIS.

AND NATE HENCHEY SAYS HE HOPES THAT BY BEING A DELEGATE AT THE AGE OF 18, HE'LL SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE WHO COULD BECOME THE FUTURE LEADERS OF OUR COUNTRY.
