A 19-year-old Giraffe named Cheka has given birth to a healthy calf at Dickerson Park Zoo. KSMU’s Shannon Bowers has the details.
This is Cheka’s ninth calf, so she wasn’t fazed by the curious zoo guests and staff as they observed the entire birthing process. Cheka has been at Dickerson Park Zoo since 1995 but only recently was introduced the Zoo’s breeding male, Peperuka.
According to a press release from the zoo, the calf hasn't been named yet, since the zoo veterinarian has yet to confirm its gender.
