Springfield Contemporary Theatre presents the wacky musical "The Robber Bridegroom" April 21-May 7 at Center Stage at Wilhoit Plaza, corner of Pershing and Robberson downtown. Based on the Eudora Welty novella by Alfred Uhry and Robert Waldman, the show ran on Broadway in 1975 and '76. Set in 18th century Mississippi, the show follows a Robin Hood-like character, the rascally robber of the woods Jamie Lockhart, as he courts Rosamund, the only daughter of the richest planter in the country. Things go awry thanks to a case of double-mistaken identity. Throw in an evil stepmother intent on Rosamund's demise, her pea-brained henchman, and a hostile talking head-in-a-trunk, and you have a rollicking southern-fried Robin Hood bluegrass-infused romp. Directed by L.J. Summers, the SCT cast includes Jeff Carney, David DePriest, Seth Dylan Hunt, Carol Reinert, John Emery, and Ali Smith. Opening Friday April 21st, the show will run Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm through May 7 at SCT Center Stage. Tickets range from $10 to $23 and are available at 831-8001 or www.springfieldcontemporarytheatre.org.
