A staple in the Springfield Art Museum's annual exhibition calendar for 56 years, Watercolor USA 2017 is a national, juried exhibition of aqueous media painting, open to artists in all 50 states and U.S. territories. This year's show features eighty-five works by eighty artists from across the country. The exhibition highlights contemporary work in watermedia from traditional transparent watercolor to mixed media collage and sculpture. Taking the $3000 top award this year (the Kenneth M. Shuck Memorial Cash Award) was Brenda Benson of Monroe City, MO (near Hannibal) with her entry "Purely Spectral." Judge for this year's Watercolor USA was Laurin McCracken, current president of the Watercolor USA Honor Society. See all the award winners and more at Watercolor USA, beginning with an opening reception during the June 2nd First Friday Art Walk from 5:30 to 7 PM sponsored by the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates.
