What began in 1950 as a summer music camp, has evolved into a mecca where university students and graduates in voice, instrumental music, and related arts come to prepare for professional careers, a place where opportunity, music, artist and audience meld with the beauty and splendor of the Ozark Mountains. Beginning in 1993, the company's strong focus on opera led to their company name, Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point. This year's season runs June 23 through July 21st and featured three operas: Bizet's "Carmen," Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," and Carlisle Floyd's "Susanna," along with an "Opera Sample" Monday July 3rd, a chamber music evening Monday July 17, and an evening of "Opera Scenes" Tuesday July 18. All performances take place in the air-conditioned outdoor venue at Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony, 16311 U.S. Highway 62, west of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Tickets range from $10 to $30, and ALL tickets are held at the Will-Call window for pickup an hour before each performance--NO tickets are mailed. For information call (479) 253-8595 or visit www.opera.org. Curtain time is 7:30pm Monday through Saturday and 3:00pm on Sundays.
