Event Description

Kick off your New Year with First Friday Art Walk 6-10 p.m. on Jan. 5. The local university galleries on Winter Break, and other venues are taking a well-deserved breather after the holidays, so the January Walk is always an intimate affair. Visitors will still receive a warm welcome in 13 participating venues featuring original art, artist receptions, live art demonstrations, hands-on art activities and more. The art and entertainment continue on Second Saturday, noon-5 Jan. 13. Second Saturday is Art Walk’s laid-back, Saturday afternoon stroll version of the Walk for all ages. Look for details on Facebook, ffaw.org and itsalldowntown.com the week after the Friday art walk. Featured in January: Beyond Studio presents works by Resident Artist Deborah Cox, plus local artist Ashley Phinney with a collection titled Finding My Voice. BookMarx brings a new perspective to the Walk with Artist Jeff Miller and his show of photographs titled Village/I Want to Slow Down. Fresh Gallery, 400 W. Walnut, presents Guest Artist Eric Ray in January. Ray, who has worked as a graphic designer, senior art director and illustrator, is a pen-and-ink artist creating commissioned artwork, showing in a number of galleries, and taking on illustration projects that interest him. Obelisk Home at the Inspired Commerce Building presents Color Celebration: The Art of Steve McGuire. He says his art is an investigation into color, the relationships between colors, the emotional feelings we get from color, the excitement and pure joy derived from color. Park Central Branch Library presents Photography by Cindy Tucker, plus get hands on with art with library staff member Peggy Hanes as she leads a session on Zendoodling. Materials will be provided.
