Event Description

The Missouri State University Music Department presents the 2018 Fite Family Piano Guest Artist recital Saturday Feb.10 at 3:30pm in Ellis Recital Hall (room 220), featuring Bulgarian pianist Dr. Ilia Radoslavov from the faculty of Illinois Wesleyan University. It's free and open to the public. For more information call 836-6547. The annual Missouri State University Music Department Composition Festival brings internationally acclaimed composers to the MSU campus to inspire, teach, and interact with students from across the Music Department and the larger campus community. These interactions include concerts and rehearsals of the guest composer’s works by department ensembles, students, faculty, and guest performers; performances of student and faculty compositions; presentations to classes and to the general public; one-on-one lessons with composition majors; and master classes with small groups of students. The 2018 Composition Festival is Monday though Wednesday Feb. 12 - 14 featuring guest composers Andrew List, Mike McFerron, Mark Douglas Richardson, and Tyler Durham. There are three concerts open to the public free of charge: a chamber-music night Monday the 12th at 7:30pm in Ellis Recital Hall featuring music by the guest composers, and MSU faculty and student composers. Concert II is Tuesday Feb.13 at 7:30pm in the Juanita K. Hmmons Hall for the Performing Arts, with Christopher Kelts leading the MSU Symphony Orchestra in works by the festival's guest composers. The third concert is again in Ellis Recital Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7:30pm, another chamber music evening. For information call Dr. Michael F. Murray at 836-4250 or visit http://www.societyofcomposers.org/members/MissouriStateUniversity/.
