The 2013 Opera Theatre of St. Louis season opens on Saturday May 25 with Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance and continues with a powerhouse double bill of two Italian thrillers – Puccini’s Il tabarro and Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. Opera Theatre will also produce its 23rd world premiere, Champion, an “opera in jazz” by five-time Grammy Award-winner Terence Blanchard and Pulitzer Prize-winner Michael Cristofer. The season concludes with Smetana’s buoyant rarity The Kiss. The full season schedule is May 25 through June 30; performances take place at the Loretto-Hilton Center on the campus of Webster University in St. Louis.
