Kouakou Yao, better known as “Angelo", and his AFRIQUE AYA Dance Company will add to the joy of the Eureka Springs May Arts Festival May 3-6. This is the fifth year Angelo has brought master-level African performers and teachers from around the United States to offer a unique experience of the culture and art of West Africa. The "Africa In The Ozarks" Festival will feature performances Friday and Saturday evenings May 4th and 5th 7:00 at The Auditorium, 32 S. Main in Eureka Springs. These will showcase virtuoso world-class drummers and dancers, as well as offering a rare opportunity to witness mask-stiltwalking by one of the few people in this country authorized to perform this esoteric art. On Saturday May 5th the group will perform in the Artrageous Parade at 2:00 and offer a free demonstration in Basin Spring Park at 3:00, followed by the evening performance. Drum and dance classes will be offered Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 10:00 am, also at The Aud. All adults and children over 10 years old are welcome. The Afropop band OZAKWAABA will close the festival on Sunday May 6 with a free performance at 5:00 in Basin Spring Park. An African-style bazaar will also be open all weekend in the park, featuring African clothing, jewelry, musical instruments, and art.
