The Springfield Art Museum presents the exhibit "John Cavanaugh: Hammered Lead" through November 18. Considered to the the 20th century's master of the form, sculptor John Cavanaugh's innovative direct metal technique captured the unique surface qualities of the medium, expressing a sense of intimacy and motion in works ranging from figurative, both animal and human, to impressionistic to abstract. The exhibit was organized with the assistance of the John Cavanaugh Foundation and made possible by a grant from the Philip Froeder Trust. It will run Sept.15 to Nov.18 at the Art Museum, 1111 E. Brookside Drive next to Phelps Grove Park. Gordan Alt, Director of the Cavanaugh Foundation, with give a gallery talk Saturday the 15th at 2:00pm in the museum's Weisel Gallery.
